FlatHunt

Privacy

Last updated 20 September 2026.

The short version. We collect what a flat-share listing needs and nothing else. Your phone number is never shown in a listing. We do not sell your data, and there is no advertising network in the app.

Who we are

FlatHunt is an app for finding a replacement for a room in a shared flat in India. For data protection purposes, the operator of FlatHunt is the data controller. Reach us at support@flathunt.in.

What we collect, and why

Data Why
Name, age, gender, photo, one-line bio Shown on your profile and beside your listings, so the person you might live with knows who they are talking to.
Email address Signing in, confirming your account and resetting your password.
Phone number (optional) Shared one person at a time, only when you choose to reveal it. It is never included in a listing or a profile others browse.
Profession, company, LinkedIn and social handles (optional) Trust. A verified tick means the linked profile exists and the name on it matches yours.
Listing details, photos and videos The listing itself — rent, costs, house rules, and where the flat is.
Location Showing rooms near you and sorting by distance. Used while you are using the app; we do not track your location in the background.
Messages Delivering your conversations. Readable by you and the people in the chat.
Saved searches and shortlists Alerting you when a matching room is posted, and keeping what you saved.
Push notification token Sending new-message and new-match alerts. Only if you allow notifications.

This website

This site — the pages you are reading now, as opposed to the app — uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people arrive on. It records the page you viewed, the rough region you viewed it from, your device type and where you came from. It does not record your name, your email or anything that identifies you personally, and the data is not used for advertising: Google Signals and ad personalisation are both switched off.

If your browser sends a “Do Not Track” signal, the analytics script is not loaded at all. You can also block it with any content blocker; nothing on the site depends on it.

The site sets no cookies of its own. Google Analytics sets its own to tell one visit from the next.

What other people can see

Your name, photo, age, gender, bio, profession, company, verified badges and your listings are visible to other signed-in users. Your email address is never shown. Your phone number is shown only when you reveal it to a specific person. Saved searches and shortlists are private to you — including when you save someone's flatmate post, which they are not told about.

Who we share it with

We do not sell personal data and we do not share it for advertising. We use:

We may disclose data where the law requires it, or to investigate abuse, fraud or a threat to someone's safety.

Keeping it

We keep your account data while your account exists. Deleting your account removes your profile, listings, photos and saved searches. Messages you sent may remain visible to the person you sent them to, in the same way a sent text does. Some records — a report of abuse, for example — may be kept longer where we need them to keep the service safe or to meet a legal obligation.

Your choices

Children

FlatHunt is for adults looking for housing and is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and access is restricted by per-row rules in the database, so one account cannot read another's private data. No system is perfect; if we discover a breach affecting you, we will tell you.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so in the app rather than only updating the date at the top.
